Before you sign up
- What is a credit?
- One unit of generation work. A title set costs 2, a full script costs 16, a thumbnail image costs 10. Every action shows its exact cost before you run it, and the full price list is on this page.
- What happens if a generation fails?
- The credits are returned automatically. Charges happen before the model call so a burst of requests cannot overdraw your balance, and any failure — a model error, a validation failure, a timed-out job — triggers a refund to the same balance.
- Do unused credits roll over?
- Monthly plan credits are granted at the start of each billing period and do not roll over. Credits bought as a top-up never expire and are used after the monthly allowance.
- Why is there a daily research limit as well as credits?
- Because they meter two different things. Credits cover what a generation costs us to run, and we control that. YouTube's API allowance is a fixed pool of units per day, shared across every PublishBench account, and a single search spends a hundredth of it — so no amount of credits can conjure more. Rather than let one busy morning spend everyone else's day, each plan gets its own share, and the last of the day is held for paid plans. This is also why research is the one thing that can be unavailable while everything else still works.
- Can I change plans?
- Yes, at any time, through the billing portal. Upgrades and downgrades are prorated by Stripe. Cancelling keeps your access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- Do I need to connect a YouTube channel?
- No. Connecting one calibrates opportunity scores to your subscriber count, lets you build a brand voice from your own uploads, and pre-fills the video picker. Bench Optimize also runs on any YouTube link you paste. Most other tools work without a channel too — building a brand voice from your own uploads and fetching captions by URL are the two that need one.
- Is there a free trial?
- The Starter plan is not a trial — it is a permanent free account with access to every tool. There is no countdown and no card required. It comes with a one-time grant of 200 credits; when those run out, you can buy a top-up that never expires, or move to a plan with recurring monthly credits.
- What happens when my Starter credits run out?
- The account keeps working. Everything you have already made stays readable, editable and exportable, cached research still costs nothing, and the thumbnail editor still opens your saved designs. What stops is new generation — writing a script, generating a thumbnail, running fresh research — until you buy a top-up or move to a paid plan.
